Seafood Commitment
Seafood Commitment

Seafood is an essential part of a healthy diet, and at Performance Foodservice Kingsun are committed to providing our customers with a wide variety of fresh and delicious seafood today and for years to come.
Kingsun are dedicated to food safety, sustainability, traceability, accurate and proper labeling, and accuracy in terms of weights, measures and species identification. In order to provide quality seafood, Kingsun depend on farmers, fisherman, processors and suppliers from around the globe.

Each of our suppliers is carefully evaluated and must pass our stringent approval process. From the species' birth to harvest kingsun require extensive documentation and proof of certification through the supply chain journey—this includes proving the health and wellness of the species, the harvest location, processing, packaging, distribution methods, labor practices, etc. Kingsun's suppliers are also continuously monitored through internal and third-party audits. Kingsun also support fishery improvements and require that our suppliers abide by international and local labor standards.

Our Commitment to Sustainability Program is comprised of five parts.

1.Supporting Sustainable Seafood in China
Kingsun suppliers in China must comply with Fisheries Law of the Peoples Republic in China waters as dictated by Committee of the National People's Congress . This organization implements programs to prevent overfishing, rebuild overfished stocks, insure conservation and protect essential fish habitats.

2.Supporting Sustainable Seafood Caught in Other Nations’ Waters
For canned tuna, our suppliers must participate in the International Seafood Sustainability Foundation (ISSF) or the equivalent of the ISSF’s Positive Vessel Register. For other species, we require that our suppliers demonstrate that fish from other nations meets our sustainability standards.

3.Ensuring Sustainability of Cultivated or Farmed Shellfish and Finfish
We require our suppliers to provide current information about the origin and processing of farm-raised fish, including farm ownership information, measures taken to prevent species invasion, labor codes of conduct, scientific identity, sustainability certifications, product additives, supply chain integrity, etc. We also require our suppliers to attain third-party certification of their farmed fish.

4.Commitment to Continuous Improvement
We encourage our suppliers to invest in improvements to fisheries and farms that will provide long-term benefits of sustainability.

5.Focus on Traceability
Understanding where the fish we provide comes from is essential, both for sustainability and for safety. Therefore, we conduct quarterly tests which require our suppliers to quickly demonstrate that they can tract the origins of the fish and shellfish they provide to a sustainable source. We also conduct DNA testing on commonly substituted fish species to ensure our products are authentic.
