The Mahi-Mahi , also known as Dorado, is a surface dwelling ray-finned fish found in off-shore temperate, tropical and subtropical waters of the ocean. Mahi-Mahi is one of only two members of the Coryphaenidae family, the other being the Pompano Dolphinfish. Average size of these fish is between 7 to 13kg (15 to 29lb). These are among the fastest growing fish and they spawn in warm ocean currents throughout much of the year.

Their dazzling colours give rise to their Spanish name Dorado, which means golden. Mahi-Mahi are highly sought for sport fishing and commercial fishing due to their beauty, size, food quality, and healthy population. The US, Caribbean countries, Australia, Japan and Hawaii are popular consumers of this fish.
